OPU
Organization
The Organization for Positive Urbanism (OPU) is a non-profit organisation based in Nicosia, Cyprus. OPU was founded in response to the climate crisis and the impact of the built environment on current environmental and social challenges.
OPU focuses on awareness campaigns on urban matters, which involves disseminating information, tactical urbanism interventions, workshops, and social events. As well as highlighting spatial opportunities and empowering the public with relevant skills, and providing a space where urban ideas can thrive and materialize.
Moreover, OPU has been involved as a consultant for a wide range of urban matters in the context of Nicosia, such as the cycling infrastructure, the enhancement of the connectivity of the city centre, and the redesign of the Venetian moat as a people-centric space. More about which you can learn at our Project section.

It functions as a hub for dialogue, creativity, and collective action, providing a space for workshops, events, temporary activations, and co-creation sessions. Designed to foster connections between citizens, organizations, and stakeholders, OPU House is a place where ideas take shape, policies are discussed, and grassroots initiatives come to life.

What We Do
At OPU Collective, we are committed to social impact, inclusion, and community empowerment, ensuring that citizens play an active role in shaping the commons.
We believe informed communities are empowered communities. Through awareness campaigns, art events, and education, we spark conversations on urban issues, sustainability, and social justice. By sharing knowledge, we inspire people to take part in shaping the future of our cities.
We strive to ensure that urban planning and policy decisions prioritize human-centric and community-driven approaches. By engaging in lobbying, research, and assessment, we advocate for inclusive, sustainable, and just policies that benefit the collective good.
Our work extends to the built environment, where we provide consulting on urban planning and design. We focus on creating public spaces that are inclusive, functional, and culturally relevant, ensuring that citizens are involved in shaping their surroundings.
We work alongside like-minded organizations, stakeholders, and communities to amplify impact. Through strategic partnerships, we facilitate collective action and shared initiatives that drive positive change.
We bring life to public spaces through temporary activations that inspire engagement, dialogue, and participation. These initiatives create opportunities for people to reclaim and redefine urban spaces, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging.
A sustainable future requires collective responsibility. We advocate for environmentally conscious urban development, integrating climate action into policy, design, and community initiatives. Our goal is to create resilient, green, and equitable urban environments.
Who we worked with
We have collaborated with municipalities, universities, cultural institutions, companies, and civil society organizations across Cyprus and Europe.
